Job Description:
Position: Urban Designer, Associate Duties: Participate in campus master plan, innovation district
plan, waterfront development, downtown revitalization, and large scale
urban design projects both domestically and internationally. Conceive,
design, and communicate master plans and cityscapes. Provide drafting,
graphic illustration, and color rendering services to firm clients as
well as prepare presentation-quality illustrations by free-hand sketches
and computer-aided design. Conceptualize and diagram alternative
concepts while analyzing and ensuring project compliance with
applicable regulations. Perform varied planning, traffic, and
environmental analysis, including zoning, density analysis, site/land
planning, feasibility analysis, and developmental impact assessment.
Prepare project reports and supporting graphics, tables, and charts.
Develop project designs in all phases of assigned planning and urban
design projects. Communicate with project managers, senior
landscape architects/urban designers, clients, and other project
personnel regarding various aspects of project development. Collaborate on
urban design and planning concepts for large-scale mixed-use,
commercial and open space projects. Prepare open space/urban form designs,
implement works contracts, and conduct related studies and research. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in urban design, architecture or
related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus five
(5) years of experience in urban design and planning. or,
alternatively, a Master's degree and three years of experience as noted above.
Three years of experience must include performing urban design for
campus master plans in both domestic and international markets;
performing all aspects of urban design, including site analysis, framework
concepts, site planning and design, public realm design, illustrative
drawings, renderings and report documentation; utilizing various
graphic representation techniques and communication tools, including
hand sketch, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, V-ray, Adobe InDesign,
Illustrator, Photoshop, GIS, and Microsoft Office; performing quantitative
analysis to execute calculations for Floor Area Ratio (FAR), density requirements, zoning requirements, and mixed use zoning
requirements; and interfacing with a range of client types, including
commercial developers, university leadership and campus stakeholders, and
city planners throughout all phases of urban planning and design.
