Responsibilities /n - Actively advocate behavior-based safety in
all aspects of Pittsfield plant operations, adhering to company and
site-specific safety policies, practices, and programs. Initiate
efforts to improve workplace ergonomics. /n - Conduct time studies,
define manufacturing costs, and develop/implement/maintain work
standards and manufacturing documentation (routings, etc.). /n -
Assist in developing and implementing measures to improve
processes, including quality, cell layouts, throughput and cycle
times, making recommendations and working in conjunction with CI
(continuous improvement) initiatives. /n - Interface with various
departments including Engineering, Production, Materials, and
Quality to ensure documentation is complete and used during design
and production. Review and approve all manufacturing level
documentation prior to release. /n - Establish the requirements for
procurement and supply of necessary production tools, process
tooling, and equipment used in production. /n - Initiate, lead,
participate, and provide training (problem solving, work flexing,
etc.) required to effectively complete improvement efforts. Work
together with factory managers to sustain improvements. Participate
in MSA Business System activities that include daily communication
meetings, department performance monitoring and problem solving. /n
- Actively participate on new product development (NPD) teams.
Provide input to ensure that proposed designs are realistic and
feasible within a Lean Manufacturing environment. Communicate
challenges of current manufacturing processes and drive efforts to
incorporate design for manufacturability and assembly concepts.
Coordinate participation from peer experts to advise on
manufacturability as necessary. /n - Recommend capital equipment
additions and develop appropriate justifications. Effectively
manage the implementation and commissioning of such additions. /n -
Review production order closeout variances, determine root causes,
and recommend corrective actions. /n - Develop and maintain
positive work relationships with individuals in all organizational
levels, both inside and outside the Pittsfield plant. /n - Up to 5%
travel may be required between U.S. facilities. /n Qualifications
/n - Solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence
attitudes and behaviors /n - Proficient in the use of PC based CAD
software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. /n - Ability to read and
interpret assembly diagrams and documents and explain to
associates. /n - Proven ability to simultaneously and independently
manage multiple tasks, solve technical problems, lead projects, and
work effectively in cross-functional teams. /n - Demonstrated
ability to drive execution of projects including the ability to
identify and act upon potential improvements. /n - Excellent
written, presentation and verbal communication skills. /n - Strong
organizational, multi-tasking, problem solving and team-building
skills. /n /n Education and experience required: /n - Bachelor's
degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited
program. /n - This position is available at multiple different
career levels based upon experience and education: /n /n - Level I
(Staff I): Entry level, no relevant industry experience /n - Level
II (Staff II): 2 years of relevant industry experience /n - Level
III (Staff III): At least 3 years of manufacturing/industrial
engineering or related experience. MS degree may be substituted for
up to 2 years of relevant experience. /n - Level IV (Senior Staff):
At least 5 years of manufacturing/industrial engineering or related
experience. MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of
relevant experience. /n /n /n Preferred: /n - Knowledge of Lean
Manufacturing Techniques (Value Stream Mapping, One Piece Flow,
Setup Reduction, Lean Management, Visual Controls, etc.) /n - Six
Sigma experience /n - Project Management Professional (PMP)
certification /n - Experience with SAP, MS Project, Exenta MES /n
